Associate of Arts Degree

Students can earn an associate degree in about two years. Having an associate degree makes you eligible for in-demand jobs, allows you to transfer credits toward a bachelor’s degree, increases your career potential, and provides personal fulfillment.

Students who work toward an associate degree take a variety of classes across disciplines. In-person evening classes are offered at the NCCC in Northfield. Online classes are also available. The associate degree consists of 60 credits. If you’d like to work toward a bachelor’s degree, which is traditionally earned in four years, you can transfer to a four-year institution after completing the 40 required credits that make up the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum.

All classes are taught by college professors and are offered through our partnership with Riverland Community College.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification

Through our partnership with Northfield Hospital Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Education, NCCC students can complete an EMT certification. Students in the program are eligible to sit for the national exam after completing the two required courses, which are offered throughout the year and vary in length from 1-3 months. You might be a good fit to become an EMT if you are a team player, enjoy helping others, and are able to manage stressful situations. An EMT certification can lead to other careers in health care, and it is required for anyone seeking to become a paramedic.
For an example of a student’s experience in the EMT program, see this article from Northfield Promise. The program is also discussed in this article from the Northfield News.

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Certification

Through our partnership with Northfield Hospital + Clinics, NCCC students can pursue a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification. The program is primarily online, with four required in-person labs in Northfield at the EMS Station. Students must be age 16 or older to register; to work in Northfield as a CNA, employers typically seek applicants who are age 18 or older (so they can operate the Hoyer lift). The class is offered throughout the year, and there are typically openings each month.
